Sherman Roy Phelps

Memorial Service for Sherman Roy Phelps, age 80, of Winnsboro will be held at 2:00 p.m, Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Harris officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Sherman passed away on March 25, 2024 at East Texas Hospice in Tyler, TX. He was born on March 13, 1944 in Plainview, TX, the son of Edgar Phelps and Gladys Hoff Phelps. Sherman married Diana (Webster) Phelps on December 31, 1965 in Plainview, TX. They moved to Dallas in the late 60’s. Sherman began his career as a carpenter and a landscape contractor. His love for baseball was evident, he adored spending time with his family and always had a crazy sense of humor.

 He is survived by his daughter, Christine Ortiz and husband, Mitchell of Sulphur Springs; one brother Donnie Phelps and his wife, Mary of North Richland Hills; nephews, Randy Phelps of Wynne Alberta, Canada, Paul Phelps of North Carolina and Wesley Phelps and wife, Devon of Garland, TX; nieces, Sherry Phelps of Garland and Leigha Garrett and husband, Brian of Garland; sister-in-law, Carol Phelps of Garland; grandchildren, Alexandra Goudeau of Dallas, Keagan Gladney of Burelson and Kyndall Hornbuckle of Sulphur Springs; three great-grandchildren, one great-nephew and five great-nieces.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Gladys Phelps; wife, Diana Phelps; sister, Marjean Jackson and one brother, Leo Phelps. Sherman will be missed so much by all who loved him.
