Sammie Carnes Obituary

Sammie Maxine Wright Carnes of Lake Dallas, TX, 97, passed away on September 10, 2020. Sammie was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and Sam Houston Wright, and four siblings: Rose, Faula Mae, Margaret, and Paul, by her husband, Douglas Carnes, and three sons, Douglas Carnes, Jr., Tommy Carnes, and Larry Don Carnes.

She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Robb of Dallas, TX and three grandchildren: Douglas Carnes III of Canyon Lake, TX, Simon Spencer of Rohnert Park, California, and Michael Robb of Dallas, TX.

She was born in Grandfield, Oklahoma, on May 5, 1923, and moved with her family to Sulphur Springs at the age of five. She married her high school sweetheart Douglas Carnes in 1939, and they resided in Sulphur Springs until they relocated to Oak Cliff, Dallas in 1954.

She worked for many years as a secretary at the Texas National Guard Armory in Dallas, and in later life enjoyed visiting and painting the landscapes of New Mexico.

A graveside service will be held at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery at 11:00 on Monday, September 14th.  Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home. www.westoaksfuneralhome.com
