A Memorial Service for Rheyburn Parrish Nolan, age 77 of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at First United Methodist Church at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, with Reverend Peter McNabb officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 2:30 p.m. an entombment will be held at a later date.
Rhey was born on February 15, 1947, in Corsicana, Texas, to Willis Rheyburn Nolan and Mary Rylie Nolan. He married Marsha Bradley on July 23, 2009, in Tyler, Texas. He passed away on December 22, 2024, at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas.
After high school, Rhey attended the University of North Texas in Denton where he received a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in 1972 and a Master of Public Administration in 1975. He loved his alma mater and a life member of the UNT Alumni Association.
Rhey was a Professor of Economics at Tyler Junior College where he taught for 43 years. He was a dedicated educator and took pride in preparing his students for a university degree. He was very conscientious about being fair and was more than willing to help any student who made the effort.
In addition to his wife Marsha, Rhey is survived by his daughter Parrish Jones and husband Stephen of Euless, Texas, stepson Jeremy Blount and wife Rachel of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and stepdaughter Betsy Lara and husband Sam of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Nolan Jones, Williams Jones, Daniella Lara, and Jolie Blount.
If memorials are desired, the family requests that in Lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs.
