Margie Adaway Obituary

Funeral Service for Margie J. Adaway will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Harold B. Nash and Rev. James E. Johnson officiating.Willie Ray Porter, Gilbert Roland, Charles Thompson, Brodrick Godbolt, Hersean Lewis, and Zach Spigner will be serving as pallbearers. Open viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025, at West Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Caney Cemetery in Pickton, Texas. Margie passed away on January 28, 2025, in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Margie was born on May 4, 1940, the oldest of five children born to the late Sutton and Etta Spigner. She grew up in the St. Mark Community in Pickton, Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by her father Deacon Sutton Spigner. Margie primary grades were spent at St. Mark Pickton, Texas, middle school and high school were at Douglas High School in Sulphur Springs, Texas and she graduated from Texas College in Tyler, Texas. United in marriage to John Bethel, Sr. and had one son John Bethel, Jr. Later she married Orell Adaway in Longview, Texas and joined the Galilee Baptist Church. Her education career started as a teacher in Madisonville, Texas from there she was Secretary to Registrar at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins then registrar at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. After many years she later became a member of the Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents Sutton Spigner and Etta Williams Spigner, brother Winston Spigner, sister Rowena Johnson and stepson Mark Adaway.

She leaves to mourn her passing to cherished, loving son John Bethel from Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Morgan Bethel of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Dorothy Parker of Fort Worth, Texas, and Marcie Porter; brother-in-law, Willie B. Porter, loving and devoted God daughters, Lillie Howard and Ozetta Johnson as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
