Glenn Gainer

Sherman “Glenn” Gainer, 82, of Sulphur Springs, TX, passed away on November 19, 2025. 

Glenn was born on July 24, 1943, to Glenn Harley Gainer and Frances Belle McCary Gainer in Clovis, NM. He later moved to Dallas, TX, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1962.  He served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve from 1964 to 1970. After leaving the Coast Guard, Glenn worked for Bell Helicopters in Hurst, TX, and later worked for a government contracting firm developing submarine guidance systems. After his father passed away, he joined his brother, Vernon Gainer, in taking over Glenn H Gainer and Sons Forklift Rental & Service business in the DFW Metroplex.  He was then called into the ministry and attended Southwestern Theological Seminary. Over the next six years, he pastored several churches across East Texas and Arkansas. After the ministry, Glenn graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science. He started a new career in Plano, working as an IT Database Administrator for several telecommunications companies. He ended his career teaching Math at Paris Junior College in Greenville, TX.

In 1962, Glenn met his wife, Glenda, through a friend at church. They married on August 1, 1964, and had three children, Gregg Gainer, Gina Gainer, and Ginger Maynard.

Upon retiring, Glenn spent his time working on his model trains, creating lifelike scenery and model railroads.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Harley Gainer and Frances Belle McCary Gainer, and his brother Vernon Gainer.    He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Glenda Gainer, his three children,  Gregg Gainer (Michele), Gina Gainer (Mark), and Ginger Maynard (Jerry), and his sister Carolyn Crawford. Grandchildren include Colby Gainer, Amber Griggs, Ashley Gaboury, Morgan Vickery, Kasie Terry, and Lauren Maynard. Great-grandchildren include Ally and Ansley Dykes, Harper Griggs, Logan Sells, McKenna Gaboury, Cohen and Pacen Vickery.

Services will be held at West Oaks Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs on Sunday, November 23 at 2:00pm with visitation at 1:00pm.
