Gene Clint Ridling passed away in the afternoon of Monday, November 11, 2019 surrounded by family.
He was born on December 27, 1942 in Commerce, TX to William “Ralph” and Mary Ann Ridling. As an only child, Gene attended school in Fairlie, TX and graduated high school in Commerce, TX.
In 1964, Gene met the love of his life, Sue Ridling, in Sulphur Spring, TX. Shortly thereafter, the two wed on September 24 and began their family, which over the years grew to include four children, 12 grandchildren and one great grandson who adored (and couldn’t get enough kisses from) his Pawpaw. Gene and Sue’s life began in Sulphur Springs, but would take them to Lewisville before coming back home where they would build their life.
Children include Troy Ridling and Carolyn, Tammy Brooks and husband Tom, Brian Ridling and wife Amy, and Kimberly Pearson and husband Matt. Grandchildren include Kaylyn and husband Jason, Kelsey and Branson, Jonathon and Hope, Zachary, Nicholas, Tommy, Bryce, Chanse, Emma, Ava, Cortney and Jacob, and great grandson Parker.
Gene spent his career as a Senior Buyer for Nordstrom Valve (Rockwell) and as a skilled carpenter who could build anything by just looking at a picture, all he needed was a hammer, a tape measure, nails and maybe a little wood glue. Above all else, he loved his family.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Odd Fellow Lodge in Sulphur Springs. Gene was preceded in death by his mother and father, William “Ralph” and Mary.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday morning, November 14 at 10 a.m. at West Oaks Funeral Home in Sulphur Spring. It will be immediately followed by services at 11 a.m. and burial at Restlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers include Gene’s grandson’s Jonathon, Zachary, Nicholas, Tommy, Bryce, Jason, Branson and Jacob.
