Gayle Scarborough Obituary

Funeral Services for Gayle D. Scarborough, age 75, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at West Oaks funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Billy Walker officiating. Interment will follow the service at Yantis Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, at West Oaks Funeral Home. Gayle went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. The Yantis Volunteer Fire Department will be escorting.

He was born on March 12, 1950, in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Marlin and Wilma Scarborough of Yantis, Texas. He married Dorothy Anita Davis on June 6, 1969, in Yantis, Texas. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister, Vickie, and his parents-in-law, Thelbert and Dorothy Davis.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Anita Scarborough, daughter, Rachel and Ray Cross, sons, John and Matthew Scarborough, brother, Ben and Terry Scarborough, sister, Julia, and Michael Robbins, all of Yantis, sister-in-law, Karen Davis-Hammond of Aurora, Illinois, Aunt Ruby Nell Hogan, several nieces and nephews, and honorary friends, Jeremiah and Sharon Bye and honorary grandchildren, Anna, John, Isaiah, and Caitlyn.

Gayle accepted Christ at an early age. His core values involved serving Christ by serving others. He was an organist for New Beginnings Fellowship Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs and Primera de Baptiste Mission in Rio Bravo. He assisted Rev. Bill Waldrop and Missionaries Kelly Hein and JB Salazar with audio/visual production in Laredo. Because of this the family is asking for donations in his name to the following missions that were near and dear to him. Lighthouse Border Missions, P.O. He served in the Yantis Volunteer Fire Department and as an organist at First Baptist Church of Yantis while in High School. He served in the Texas National Guard for 6 years during the Vietnam War. He served as reserve deputy for Hopkins County Sherriff’s Office under Sherriff Junior Tittle. He was a dispatcher for Sulphur Springs Police Department and worked 40 years in the Department of Public Safety Communications Service. He was a TCOLE Instructor at the DPS Academy, and law enforcement instructor at Texas A&M University in Loredo as well as Collin County Community College in McKinney. His interest in weather led to participating as an Amateur Radio Technician (N5XTL) for the Texas R.A.C.E.S. Emergency Radio Network and was a Public Information Officer for the Republic of Rio Grande Radio Club.
