Carson Bradley Hicks

Carson Bradley Hicks, 26, ascended to heaven on October 6, 2022 as a result of injuries sustained in an ATV accident on the family land, in Pickton, Texas where he loved to work and hunt.

Carson was born on March 7, 1996 in Dallas, Texas.  He attended Sulphur Springs schools and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 2015.  He attended Texas A & M University, Commerce and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2018 and Master of Science in 2020 both in Agricultural Sciences.  While growing up, he was involved in many extracurricular activities, but his love was rodeo.

As a child, he loved all the sports – he played travel baseball for many years. During his school years, he was a true Wildcat as he played on the SSHS Baseball team and helped the team to a historical run in the playoffs.  He loved Wildcat football and his coaches and was a defensive leader.  As a Wildcat, he received numerous accolades for his efforts and work ethic and in May 2015 he earned the prestigious James Cameron Fighting Heart Award – where his name will forever be a part of Sulphur Springs High School.

Carson was a member of Bloomer Trailer Rodeo Team and competed in the Texas High School Rodeo Association Region IV throughout high school and ultimately qualified for the 2014 National High School Rodeo Finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming as a steer wrestler. In all these activities Carson gave 100% to every sport.  Carson was awarded a rodeo scholarship at Texas A & M University, Commerce where he competed at the college level in calf roping, steer wrestling and team roping.  He also loved competing at amateur rodeos.

Upon graduation, Carson returned to the family business J3 Cattle Company where he quickly learned the how to successfully manage the business. The cattle industry was a way of life from an early age.  His favorite part of the job was to purchase cattle for a multitude of feed yards.  He thrived on buying cattle, filling cattle orders, sorting and shipping the best cattle to customers.  His work ethic was impeccable; he worked seven days a week from sunrise until the work was done. He was well respected in the business and was well on his way to becoming a great success in the cattle industry.

Carson leaves behind his adoring parents Holly and Chad Folmar and Todd Hicks, lovely fiancée Taeler Schepp, sister Carson Nicole Folmar and brother Chandler Folmar.  He is also survived by his loving grandparents, Karen and Jimmy Willis, Gail and Dan Hicks, Linda and John Folmar; Special Uncle Brad and wife Holly Willis, Aunt Miki and husband Kris Koon, Uncle Bill and wife Sherry Sewell and Uncle Todd Folmar, Cousins who were more like siblings Chloe and Cole Willis, Loryn Willis Meyer and husband Raeben and daughter Rhynlee, Kade and Chase Koon, Angelica, Tori and Blake Sewell, Breanna Dean and Chasen Folmar and wife Kalee as well as a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.  Dogs are often man’s best friends – Rosie and Tilly were certainly his friends, too.

Carson was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Lois and Richard Moore, Frieda and Jim Alfred Willis, Dera and George Hicks, Mary and Earl Gregg, Helen and Johnny Folmar and Bobbie and J. T. Ellison and his cousin Brian Cousins.

To know Carson was to love him. He was the pride and joy of his family.  He set the example of loving son, grandson, nephew and fiancée.  He was a true friend to many and a good man to all.  His heart was pure gold. This special young man will live on in the memories and hearts of all who knew and loved him.  He loved to travel with his family and loved spending time eating family meals together.  His family meant the world to him.

Carson will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on October 11, 2022 officiated by special friend Jeff Harris and Brynette Pogue will provide special music for the family. 

A Public Memorial Service will be held on the same day, October 11, 2022 at 1 PM at First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs. Pastor Jeff Gravens will welcome guests to First Baptist Church and Joe Williamson, Josh Gafford and Rex Claxton will officiate. Betsy Mulder, cousin, will share stories of Carson’s childhood and music will be presented by Gus Andrews.  All friends are welcome to attend the memorial service with honorary seating being reserved for the past and present J3 Cattle Company Team Members and special friends.
