Graveside services for Billy Joe Clayton, age 90, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 7, 2022, at Tira Cemetery with Andy Wright officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Clayton, Larry Clayton, Mick Petty, Rick Petty, Andy Wright, Tommy Dickens, and Pedro Salazar. There will be no formal visitation. Billy Joe passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at his residence. He was born on May 23, 1931, in Tira, TX, the son of O.M. and Lesby Petty Clayton. He served in the United States Army and discharged in 1954 as a Corporal. He earned his Masters’ Degree in Agriculture and worked as an AG teacher for Sulphur Bluff ISD, North Hopkins ISD, and Saltillo ISD. After teaching, he was a dairy man and rancher. He was also a sports enthusiast. He is survived by two nephews, Larry Clayton, and Tim Clayton, as well as numerous cousins, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth Clayton, WR “Dub” Clayton, and two sisters, Drucella Wolfe, and Bobbie Smith.
