Annie Mearl Wilkerson was born on September 26, 1942, to parents – Sammie Harris, Sr. and Pearl Lee Kelly Harris in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She departed this life at the age of 82 on March 23, 2025.
She joined Morning Chapel Baptist Church at an early age. She participated in Youth and Adult Choirs, BTU, Vacation Bible School, Season Saints, and various other activities in the church, and continued as a faithful member until her death.
Annie graduated from Douglas High School in 1960. She was the Child Care Director for Velma R. Minter Kindergarten & Play School from 1968 – 1975. Later in her career she was a public service worker as a Certified Dietitian and Certified Nurses Aid from 1975-2018.
She married Jerry Wilkerson in Sulphur Springs, Texas, in 1984. Mr. Wilkerson preceded her in death November 27, 2019.
Annie leaves to cherish her memory, her two siblings: a sister, Jane Harris Clayton and a brother, Sammie Harris, Jr., her loving stepdaughter, Lela M. Hill, special friend Peggy Dial, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Sammie, and Pearl Lee Harris: Sisters, Thelma L. Williams, Dorothy N. Peace, Wanda R. Whitmore, Alice F. Williams and Emma J. Delcambre; Two nieces, Vikiesha Williams and Melissa Johnson and one nephew, Sandy Williams.
