Sam Porter, Jr.

Funeral services for Sam Porter, Jr., age 77, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at East Caney Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation. Sam departed this life on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 12:05 a.m. at Sulphur Springs Health and Rehab. Sam was the 3rd child born to Mary Lee Ross and Sam Porter Sr on April 9, 1942. Sam married Virginia Joyce Hall on April 13, 1962. She preceded him in death June 16, 2017. To this union five children were born, Karmon Porter Fralin (Anthony), Bobby Ray Porter (Louella), Jana Kay Porter, and Michael D. Porter. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Joyce Porter in November 1989, grandson, Darius T. Porter on February 18, 2008, his parents, one sister, Trullie Porter, and two brothers, Maurice Porter and Marvin Porter. Sam attended school in the Hopkins county area. He was a member of Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Sam retired from Hopkins County Precinct 2 after working many years in Como, TX. In addition to his children, he also leaves to cherish his memory, grandchildren, Anthony Fralin Jr., Katia Fralin, Justin Porter, Draylon Porter, Jerry Wilkerson Jr., Britnee Porter, Whitney Porter Kendrick, Keistan Edwards, Delisia Smith, sisters, Freddie Porter Jernigan and Sharon Porter, brother, Willie Ray Porter, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
